Wexford
outclass poor Cork, 1-15 to 0-02
This
one was over literally after 15 minutes as Wexford completely outplayed
and outclassed a very poor Cork side who were really not at the races
in Canton, yesterday, and never really looked like troubling a very
much improved Wexford side from last year. Wexford showed there intent
quickly here for in the early going had notched up good scores with
points from corner forward Cyril McArdle and partner upfront, Tom
Murphy.
Cork
looked at this stage to be outclassed with no ready responses to Wexford's
fiery start and were being outplayed throughout the field.
Showing well for Wexford at full back was newcomer and away based
Ger Joyce, who would go on be influential throughout, and it was later
learned that this Kilkenny player was part of the All Ireland winning
under 21 side of last year and had got some runs on the senior panel
earlier in the year.
Wexford
extended their lead further when Murphy scored a point and Jim Hughes
put over two more points to leave Cork trailing by 5 points by the
mid point.
The
second half was more of the same as Wexford had put over two more
quick points from McAnespy and Murphy, who were reeking havoc upfront.
Wexford coasted from here on in, adding on 4 more points, where dismal
Cork failed to register a single score in the second half.
