Wexford 2-16 Cork 1-4

The Wexford Senior team had the perfect start to the year with an easier then expected win over Cork. The first half was a closely contested affair with some five individual scores by Peter Ryan, Tom Dunphy, and Jim Turner. Wexford had the perfect tonic on the stroke at half-time with a goal by Ryan after some great work by Niall "Fowler" Maloney. This left the score at 1-6 to 0-3. The second half proved a one-sided affair with Tommy "Johnsie" Murphy in fine form adding a goal to some previous choice points, while Ryan, Tom Dunphy, and Paul Dillon concluded the scoring. Cork scored a consolation goal just before time expired against a strong Wexford defense in which Peter Nolan and Jim Turner had fine games for the model county men.
